Big Idea Theatre strives for high quality, entertaining, and inventive adaptations of Shakespeare's greatest works. Our latest incarnation brings a favorite pastoral comedy out of the countryside and into our own backyard...literally. This spring, our production of As You Like It will pay homage to  Sacramento by celebrating and examining the many facets of the capital city that we call home.

The story’s heroine, Rosalind, must flee in a desperate attempt to save her life after a coup deposes her father.  Homeless and in disguise, she wanders through Sacramento’s urban wilderness, encountering an unemployed section of the population who have reached the end of the journey she now finds herself on. Despite losing all that she has ever known, Rosalind discovers love, laughter, and unexpected compassion along the way. With everything from "Arden Park" to the homeless to a soundtrack made up of locals bands, director Benjamin T Ismail has designed a genuine love letter to our hometown that is not to be missed.

Who can you trust?  Matthew’s wife, Lisa, may be having an affair with Adrian, a British theatre director.  Or perhaps the affair is part of a play being rehearsed.  Or perhaps Matthew has imagined all of it simply to have something to report to Frank, his therapist.  And who is Cory - the mysterious woman who seems to shadow the others?  Nothing is as it seems in this hilarious “relationship thriller” about love, lust and the power of deception.
